Ferrier, Matthew (2022) Morita Equivalence for C*-Categories. PhD thesis, University of Sheffield.
Abstract
For C*-algebras, Morita equivalence was introduced by Marc Rieffel, with a pair of C*- algebras being declared Morita equivalent if there exists a certain Hilbert bimodule between them, which can be used to show that Morita equivalent C*-algebras have equivalent categories of right Hilbert modules. In this thesis, we develop a similar theory for C*-categories, building on ideas introduced by Paul Mitchener and Michael Joachim. We show that many similar results hold true for C*-categories and we show that Morita equivalence for C*-categories can, in some sense, be reduced to Morita equivalence for C*-algebras.
