The Making of Sexual Efficiency. Sexuality, Medicine, and Venereal Disease in the Chilean Military (1860s-1945)

The Making of Sexual Efficiency examines the interactions between medical practices, sexuality, and venereal disease within the Chilean military from the 1860s to 1945. It argues that concerns about sexuality and venereal disease were fundamental to how the Chilean army managed its deployments and military occupations from the late nineteenth century to the early decades of the twentieth century. By examining the interplay between sexuality and medicine, this research seeks to uncover the mechanisms through which the military sought to maintain sexual efficiency and combat the prevalence of venereal disease.
