Kourmo, Mohamad (2026) Data Analysis for the Reaction 14N(a,p) in TACTIC and Details about a Specific Isotope. MSc by research thesis, University of York.
Abstract
This study comprises an experimental investigation of the 14N + 4He nuclear reaction using the TRIUMF Annular Chamber for Tracking and Identification of Charged Particles (TACTIC). A 14N beam was directed onto a 4He target gas to perform direct measurements of the reaction and identify charged particles through their energy-loss (∆E) characteristics.
The experiment employed high beam intensities (> 106particles/s) to determine the reaction yield, centre-of-mass energies, and cross sections at low energies. The measured cross sections were analysed and compared with previously published experimental data to evaluate the accuracy and consistency of the results.
The findings provide important constraints on nuclear reaction rates relevant to stellar nucleosynthesis and demonstrate the effectiveness of gaseous detector systems for studying low-energy α induced nuclear reactions.
