Evans, Dawn (2023) An Exploration of African and Caribbean Women's Journeys Towards Senior Positions in Further Education. PhD thesis, University of York.
Abstract
Within further education (FE) institutions in the United Kingdom (UK), there is a lack
of African and Caribbean women in senior positions; the FE sector has seen a
significant decline in the number of leaders who are members of Black, Asian and
minority ethnic (BAME) groups. This means that there are inadequate levels of
diversity in leadership, and the existing body of scholarly work on diversity in
leadership has not considered the unique experiences of African and Caribbean
women professionals in FE.
This research was focused on exploring African and Caribbean women’s journeys
towards senior positions in FE. It explored the lived experiences of African and
Caribbean women as they aim to progress in a sector in which they are significantly
underrepresented.
