The Socio-cultural Dynamics of Translating Foreign Fiction into Arabic in Saudi Arabia: A Sociological Approach

This research focuses on foreign fiction translation into Arabic in Saudi Arabia, investigating the socio-cultural factors that influenced this practice during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The genesis of the field of foreign fiction translation into Arabic, and the development of its agents and activities in Saudi Arabia, are traced through application of Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological framework. Bourdieu’s concepts of field, capital, habitus, homology and doxa are applied as analytical tools to investigate the structure, dynamics, struggles, practices and products in the field of foreign fiction translation into Arabic.
