Turina, Romana (2018) The Moving Image and Historical Amnesia: Trieste, Italian Cinema and the Creative Remediation of Silenced History. PhD thesis, University of York.
Abstract
The thesis presents a case of silenced history and its mediation in the film form. It
is composed of three sections: a history of the Italian cinema and television
production that portrayed Trieste and its history between 1909 and 2010; the
exploration of the key theories, archival research, and previous film productions
that influenced the development process of three films presenting the author’s
creative practice, here included; and the critical reflection on the creative practice,
in a dialogue with the research in the history of Italian cinema and relevant key
theories.
