Restricted theses

An author may choose to restrict access to their thesis for a fixed period, while they look for opportunities to commercialise their research findings or agree a publishing deal. Occasionally access to a thesis may be restricted indefinitely, if the findings could present a security risk or a danger to health and wellbeing.

Requesting access to a restricted thesis

Follow the link from the thesis details to ‘Request a copy’. Your request including the email address you supply will be forwarded to the author, who may be willing to share their thesis with you privately. If there is no ‘Request a copy’ link, then the author has chosen not to accept requests for the thesis via this route.

For authors

If you are a theses author looking for advice on embargoes, see the guidance provided by your University: York, Sheffield, Leeds.
